There to 2 standard ways of installing DNL readers.
If you view a book inside a webpage the reader is automatically installed via CAB/XPI plugin if you are using IE6+ or NS6+ (digitally signed as recommended by Microsoft). The webbrowser will inform you of this fact before it installs. This is easiest and most reliable way of installing the reader. All our plugin files have been digitally signed so that you know that it is an authentic download.
You can also manually install using the standalone DNL reader installer from http://www.digitalwebbooks.com/reader . You will find that this is a digitally signed executable, meaning that it can be verified that it has not been tampered with, i.e. by a virus or otherwise. It is also located on a secured server so there is minimal chance of downloading an infected file.
The DNL reader itself has a link to our website which is an industry standard practice. Your users will know exactly who developed the software platform from which the book was made and can contact us directly if there is any doubt.
Please note that our software can create books in either DNL or EXE format.
DNL books require a DNL reader to read. DNL is the best and most secure format as it cannot be infected by viruses. You can also send this via email but remember to ask your potential users to download and install the latest reader from http://www.digitalwebbooks.com/reader/ We suggest that you keep this as a link only because the DNL reader constantly updated.
EXE books are simply the DNL with the reader built in. You can also aquire a digital developers certificate from Thawte or Verisign to sign the EXE files yourself.
Unfortunately, sending any file via email is now an issue due to the proliferation of many email viruses. The best alternative to sending books via email is to host the book on your website and send your users the URL to download via web. This way you can also track the downloads of your book through the weblogs. If the user wants to keep the book then they can click on the disk icon to save or right click on the book to thier PC. As a bonus, the web page books will also automatically install the DNL reader as well as the browser plugin.
